Haiti earthquake update aftershocks strike while rescue and relief efforts continue

It’s been eight days since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated the nation of Haiti and this morning a 5.9-6.1 earthquake terrified survivors and threatened rescue and relief efforts. Meanwhile, there are still miraculous recoveries underway. Yesterday, a 70-year-old woman was pulled from the rubble and today, a five-year-old boy was miraculously pulled from underneath a collapsed home. The current casualty count is at 72,000 and Haitian officials expect that figure to rise.

  Although the backlash caused chaos and instilled fear and panic in many it did not hamper relief efforts and rescue. Additional U.S. troops are en route to Haiti and rescuers continue to search for better ways to deliver aid to desperate people. It is unclear whether the current replicas were more victims.

After eight days, aid continues to accumulate in Port-au-Prince airport and there is much difficulty that the distribution of aid where it is needed. The Red Cross has collected an estimated $ 24 million of which approximately 1 / 5 of these funds were raised through the campaign of text.

Fundraising continues as long as people want to contribute to the crisis in Haiti. A new report indicates that Obama has just donated $ 15,000 to the Fund of Haiti Clinton Bush.
